SOMEONE ELSE KEEPS EDITING MY PAGE[edit]

Hello

"Please someone from wikipedia contact me Joanelle Romero asap as someone keeps editing my page and it is defamatory, libelous information." If this does not stop I will have to turn this over to our attorneys.

With Respect Joanelle Romero 2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5 (talk) 04:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I removed some apparent original research related to Romero's ancestry, and the article could use some attention from experienced editors, especially ones familiar with our guidelines/policies/essays on ethnicity and Native American tribal membership. If Joanelle Romero is about you, you should be familiar with WP:OWN and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:13, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi IP 2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5. You might also want to log in to your other account instead of using an IP address for the reasons explained in WP:LOGGEDOUT. You should also be careful about posting personal identifying information on Wikipedia as explained in WP:REALWORLD and WP:PRIVACY. Content posted on Wikipedia pages is visible to anyone who wants to see it and has the means to access the page. If you feel you've posted something too personal that you would like to have removed, please look at WP:OVERSIGHT. Just for reference, other Wikipedia users aren't going to contact you by phone and may only use email for really sensitive matters; so, posting such information is not really going help resolve anything since all exchanges with others are going to take place on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:36, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

2603:8000:2400:652C:45AE:826B:F8A1:95F5, it appears to me from the Article's 'View history' page that you have been adding material, and experienced Wikipedia editors have been removing it because it is not acceptably cited to verifiable, published Reliable sources, as Wikipedia requires. This is not "defamatory."
Please understand that the article is not "your page." It is Wikipedia's article about you. You need to read and understand WP:Own. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 5.64.160.67 (talk) 07:42, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

template request[edit]

hi
my draft is declined
Name: Template:Shopping malls in Cagayan Valley

112.209.16.36 (talk) 11:35, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, it is declined. The reviewer has placed a reason on the draft template's page, with a suggestion on how to make it fit for publication. You might like to read WP:NOTDIRECTORY, which is what your draft template seems to be. Bazza (talk) 11:52, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Detail[edit]

Good afternoon. I know this is a detail, but I have read several times, for example, "X (died 1500)"; wouldn't "X (died in 1500)" be more correct? JackkBrown (talk) 14:19, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I would use either "X (died 1500)" or "X died in 1500". The former is a note using the common abbreviated form, the latter is continuous prose. All IMHO of course. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:30, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@JackkBrown, check out Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography (and perhaps also Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:33, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Martin of Sheffield: how can I find all my corrections on "died 1500", and "died in 1500"? I have always corrected with the latter. I absolutely don't want to make mistakes in my corrections. Is there a filter that lets me find my corrections on this? JackkBrown (talk) 14:37, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not sure. I had a look at your list of contributions: Special:Contributions/JackkBrown. Unfortunately you don't seem to include edit summaries, so I've no idea how you can retrospectively look. To be honest, it's not a major issue and I'd suggest just to be careful going forward. If someone else notices and objects, then let them sort it out. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:16, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@JackkBrown: And please remember to use edit summaries. Some WP edit interfaces can be set to remind you. (I used to forget sometimes, and use this all the time now.) Bazza (talk) 16:39, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Asking for review of the Translated page of an existing Wiki page[edit]

I have been trying to translate in English the Marcelle Pardé page which was originally created in French (I am one of the primary contributors to that specific page). The system did not allow me to publish my translation because of my Wiki status and I could only save that draft under my personal Wiki account. How do I submit it for review so it can be published and tweaked using Wiki source code? I could not see that "ask for review" option nor could I see how to togle the translation page from text to Wiki code (in insert footnotes for example). Denis Couillard (talk) 14:20, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Denis Couillard I've added the information to allow you to submit it. It's provided automatically if you create a draft via WP:AFC. 331dot (talk) 14:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Denis Couillard At present, you don't seem to have copied over the sources, since you have got dummy references like [1] within the text. For the English Wikipedia we prefer inline citations using <ref> tags: see WP:REFB. Please provide these before you submit the draft for review. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:32, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've taken the liberty of moving the raw references across for you and fixing one that would have caused an issue. Hope this helps. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:07, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Ownership of Business[edit]

Hi Wikipedia Help Desk, the owners have changed at : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bicycle_Hotel_%26_Casino/ business was acquired by new owners in 2022. Since then, the name + logo have changed as well. How can we edit this on the page? Or should we simply start a new page for the new entity? Sandeekim (talk) 19:23, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Courtesy link: The Bicycle Hotel & Casino [your coding didn't quite work, it's easiest to just copy and past the title from the article page].
It would not be a good idea to have two separate articles for the same establishment. One course of action would be to WP:Move the article to the new name (you can't edit page names in the same way as other text), leaving a WP:Redirect under the old name (because many people will search for that): if done properly, this will preserve the history of the original article, which is required.
I see the logo is uploaded to en.Wikipedia directly under the Non-free use rationale – you can upload the new logo in the same way and replace the old one with the new.
I assume you have no personal connection to the business. If you do, you need to look at WP:Paid and WP:COI, and comply with those policies as necessary (this is mandatory). Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 5.64.160.67 (talk) 19:54, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Sandeekim: If you are associated with the business (and I assume you are due to your use of the pronoun "we"), then you should refrain from making edits to the article yourself. Propose them on the talk page instead. You can upload a new logo and add it, change spelling, and other minor things, but if you want anything more substantive than that, you should propose it on the talk page. You can preface your proposal with the tag {{request edit}} to indicate your conflict of interest and cause your proposal to be listed on a category page that is monitored by some editors. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:04, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Three instances of vandalism spread out over two years is not enough to justify protection. That would prevent good faith IP editors like you from editing the article. Cullen328 (talk) 21:41, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Doubt[edit]

Good evening. How can I tell if the person who wrote the paragraph in the article meant "Astana Arena opened in 2009" or "Astana Arena, opened in 2009"? The problem is as follows: the person who wrote the article may have forgotten to add the comma. Without the comma, the sentence "Astana Arena opened in 2009" needs the MOS:CAPTIONS, while with the comma it does not need the MOS:CAPTIONS. How can I understand this? I hope I have explained correctly. The fraae in reference is "Astana Arena opened in 2009". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astana#/editor/18. JackkBrown (talk) 22:06, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

JackkBrown, probably the best way to find out what somebody meant when they wrote something is to identify the edit in which that "something" was added, identify the editor, and ask the editor on the editor's talk page. Just as you cannot read other editors' minds, other people here at the "help desk" also cannot read other editors' minds. -- Hoary (talk) 23:34, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Another approach is to say that it doesn't matter what another editor meant: you have as much right as that other editor to decide what the paragraph says. If you think it isn't clear, reword it. If you are not sure what it is saying, look at the source and see what it says (and if one is not cited, find one and cite it), and reword accordingly. ColinFine (talk) 09:03, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@JackkBrown: Looking at the article in question, Astana#Sport, the caption is for a photograph of the Astana Arena. "Astana Arena" will suffice on its own, because it describes what the picture is. It is my preferred caption for this picture as any subsidiary information, such as its opening date, should be in the article text. It might have the date the picture was taken added, as has been done for the "Barys Arena in 2015" picture below it.
Adding an extra snippet of information, as in "Astana Arena, opened in 2009", is fine with a comma: the additional text simply describes a property of the subject, although it would be better in the article text as stated above.
I'd consider "Astana Arena opened in 2009.", without a comma but with a full-stop, to be inaccurate, because it's not a picture of the arena being opened in 2009. Bazza (talk) 09:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bazza 7: yes, I had already corrected the caption yesterday; I did the same reasoning. Thank you very much anyway! JackkBrown (talk) 11:58, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Inscriptions[edit]

Hi, are inscriptions indicated with italics or with quotation marks? I have always been a bit dubious about inscriptions; the following sentences are inscriptions: "He is buried in the family tomb in the Cimitero Degli Angeli, on the road from Mantua to Cremona. The inscription over the door reads: "Correrai Ancor Più Veloce Per Le Vie Del Cielo" (You will race even faster along the roads of heaven).[42]"; "In Castel d'Ario there is a bronze statue of Nuvolari on a marble plinth inscribed "Nivola – Campione Automobilistico di Tutti Tempi" (Nivola – Champion Driver of All Time); and at the end of Mantua's Via delle Rimembranze, the street where he lived towards the end of his life, is a square that is now called Piazza Nuvolari.[42]". JackkBrown (talk) 02:42, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

JackkBrown, how about the following: He is buried in the family tomb in the Cimitero Degli Angeli, on the road from Mantua to Cremona. The inscription over the door reads: Correrai Ancor Più Veloce Per Le Vie Del Cielo ("You will race even faster along the roads of heaven").[42] -- Hoary (talk) 03:00, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Non-English text should be marked up with one of the lang templates. See MOS:FOREIGN. There is {{langnf}} which would work well for this case:
The inscription over the door reads: {{langnf|it|Correrai Ancor Più Veloce Per Le Vie Del Cielo|You will race even faster along the roads of heaven}}
The inscription over the door reads: Correrai Ancor Più Veloce Per Le Vie Del Cielo (Italian for 'You will race even faster along the roads of heaven')

@Michael D. Turnbull, @JackkBrown: Looking on my Android phone, neither the Wikipedia app nor viewing in a browser's "mobile" version shows any of these three images with a border. Furthermore, the "thumb" version doesn't have the usual surrounding "frame", caption and "enlarge" icon. The "desktop" version in a browser is fine. German to English Translation[edit]

How do I translate a German article to English? I believe that you need to create an account, change your preferences to Deutsch German and then Save the article to your documents.

Is this correct? JuliePotter (talk) 15:36, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@JuliePotter: No. That's only going to change the interface language into German at the most. You're going to want to check out Wikipedia:Translation for more information. You can, when you become an extended confirmed editor (500 edits on your account that is older than 30 days), use the content translation tool as an aid. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 15:47, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What you are actually asking is how to create an article in English Wikipedia whose content happens to be based on an article in another Wikipedia. This is not much different from creating any other article in English Wikipedia, and you are responsible for making sure your work meets all the criteria for references, notability etc (the original article may meet these, or it may not, as standards are not the same in different Wikipedias. I believe that German Wikipedia has quite high standards though, so it may do). You must also (according to the terms of the licence) attribute where the material has come from. All this is summarised in WP:Translation, as Tenryuu says. ColinFine (talk) 15:51, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

School Logo and Related Copyright[edit]

So I was interested in uploading the logo of a school and was wondering how I would seeing as I have the logo and it is on their webpage and other social media but I cant seem to find who created it or if it is under any license currently. I was thinking permission from the principal would work but don't know. Please let me know what I should do thanks and have a good day. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 15:50, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@SkyWolf369: Well first, I don't think the principal of the school would have the ability to grant permission to use the logo if it is copyrighted. Second, can you find any sort of copyright notice anywhere on the school page? Usually the image will be under the same one. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:53, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Blaze Wolf At the bottom of the page it has a copyright to Pearson. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 15:54, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's odd.... Pearson PLC shouldn't own any copyright relating to the school. If you link the website here it would be easier to help you out. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Its the Pocomoke High School website https://www.pocomokehighschool.org/ SkyTheWolf (Talk) 15:57, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah, from my guess, it looks like the school probably requested a website from Pearson, who in turn used Wix.com to create the website. I would say that the school owns the copyright to the logo since I see no evidence that Pearson also created the logo. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:01, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Blaze Wolf The school page was created and maintained by the media specialist / librarian at Pocomoke High School from my knowledge. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 16:03, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@SkyWolf369 Since you would be using the logo on the Wikipedia article, you can follow the procedure outlined at WP:LOGO and upload the logo as WP:NONFREE here (not Commons). Carefully follow all the instructions for non-free logos as this one is sufficiently complex to be copyright. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:03, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull Is there a way for me to request permission for them to release the copyright? I was intending to upload it to Commons. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 16:08, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@SkyWolf369 Yes, in principle, but if I were them I wouldn't want to do so since for Commons you need a CC BY SA license, which among other things means anyone can use the logo for any purpose including commercial purposes (provided they acknowledge its source). If you do want to go down that route, you need to look at c:Commons:Email_templates and similar help pages. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:14, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull According to the media specialist it isnt copyrighted which is confusing because the page claims pearson has copyright. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 16:21, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@SkyWolf369: Pearson owns the copyright for the website, but not necessarily the logo. Also, the media specialist might not actually know if it is or isn't copyrighted. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:23, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe get the media specialist to upload the file to Commons? Then it wouldn't be your problem if things went wrong.... However, the safe thing to do is to go down the WP:NONFREE route. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:30, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would like to add that if you do go down the NONFREE route, if the image is released under a commons compatible license later it can then be uploaded there. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:31, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Should I ask about them releasing it and if not then upload it as WP:NONFREE or just upload it as Non-Free? SkyTheWolf (Talk) 16:52, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you want to go ahead. I don't think it's worth the effort though. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:54, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to add a photo of the journal cover to the wikipedia article[edit]

Dear Wikipedia Editors,

I just submitted a draft of an article for publication:

Draft:The Journal of Environmental Education

I tried to upload a photo (the cover of the journal) but I couldn't. Would you be so kind to help me out please? Thank you very much, Alberto Arenas Arenasa2022 (talk) 18:31, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Arenasa2022, firstly, please don't put the same question on multiple pages - your duplicate at the teahouse has been deleted.
As for your question, the cover of a journal will be copyright, so can only be used under a claim of "fair use" which is not applicable to draft articles. Having looked at your draft, I suspect it will be refused again, so I would concentrate on getting that approved, before worrying about the image - Arjayay (talk) 18:38, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

taim Falafel[edit]

Hi there - I work as an employee at taim mediterranean kitchen. Our page has not been edited in a very long time and there are lots of things we'd love to update, such as our logo, how many locations we now have, what we now serve and more. What is the best way about editing many things like this? I believe we tried in the past but the edits were not accepted so we'd love any help. Thank you! Medkitchteam (talk) 22:10, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, Medkitchteam. (I see that your account is currently blocked, until you change its name or create a new one).
As you have a conflict of interest, and in fact are almost certainly classed by Wikipedia as a paid editor, you must make a formal declaration of that fact (see that link). Then you should not edit the article Taim directly, but should instead make edit requests on the the article's talk page.
But please note that Wikipedia is not interested in what you want to say about your restaurant, but only in what independent sources have reported about it. Your logo can almost certainly be updated, your locations possibly, provided a source unconnected with you writes about them (not just something regurgitating a press release); but what you serve is not encyclopaedic unless an independent source, unprompted by you, has written about it. Changing a picture[edit]

What are the rules on changing pictures? For example, I want to change Devante Adams picture from a Green Bay Packers to a Las Vegas Raiders. What picture can I use? Btdellis2729 (talk) 02:36, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Btdellis2729, if there is a more descriptive photo for Devante Adams, and it is Creative Commons compatible, then you can upload it and change the image. See commons:COM:LICENSE for a description of what would be acceptable. Most random images online are not acceptable, but photos you took yourself are. In the case of Devante Adams, someone uploaded the photo to flickr under a CC license. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 02:47, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"Edit summary search"[edit]

Hello. How can I, by searching for keywords in the "Edit summary search" option, review all my changes for that or those keywords? I could only find a few results via the filter. JackkBrown (talk) 02:52, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi JackkBrown. Are you using this tool? I'm able to get 500 results at a time for a given search. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:56, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Firefangledfeathers: yes, but I am on a mobile device and cannot view more than 50 changes at most. JackkBrown (talk) 03:41, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sorry JackkBrown. I'm not able to reproduce that issue. Using iOS's Firefox app, I'm still getting up to 500 results per page. Do you have a "Next 50 results" button at the bottom at least? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:48, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Firefangledfeathers: I have the "next 500 results" button, but I still only display a few dozen changes; for example, if I enter "MOS:CAPTIONS" as a keyword and click on the button (I have made over 1,500 changes by indicating this word in the description), it takes me to another screen where I can display another dozen changes, but nothing more. JackkBrown (talk) 03:57, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Damn! I tried that search on my mobile device and did get a large number of results. Is it possible for you to try another browser on your mobile device? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:02, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Firefangledfeathers: I will try. I would like to take this opportunity to ask whether a sentence like this: > "Orestes at Delphi". Painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC. <, is correct according to MOS:CAPTIONS. In my opinion yes, because since there is a full stop, the full stop should also be added at the end; this part is not well explained in the rules. Am I right, or not? JackkBrown (talk) 04:28, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think the guidance is not iron-clad on cases like that, but the spirit of the guideline is "don't use full stops for sentence fragments". My response would probably be to rewrite the caption as either a single sentence fragment with no full stop or a full sentence ended with a period. You could do "Orestes at Delphi": painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC or The painting "Orestes at Delphi", which depicts two naked males, was created ca. 330 BC. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:35, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Firefangledfeathers: ok, so in case there is already a full stop ("Orestes at Delphi".) (full stop after "Deplhi"), it is not incorrect to add another one as a "closing" to the caption (Painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC.) (full stop after "BC"); I understood this from what you wrote, I hope I got it right. JackkBrown (talk) 04:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not quite what I was saying but I don't totally disagree. Here's my hierarchy of preferences:
  1. Rewrite so no full stop is needed: "Orestes at Delphi": painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC
  2. Rewrite with full sentence(s) and full stop(s): The painting "Orestes at Delphi", which depicts two naked males, was created ca. 330 BC.
  3. Violate the spirit of MOS:CAPTION, where doing otherwise is maybe impossible or awkward: "Orestes at Delphi". Painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC.
  4. Violate both the spirit and the letter of MOS:CAPTION (note the lack of a final full stop): "Orestes at Delphi". Painting of two naked males, ca. 330 BC
I don't think #3 is a disaster, but it's better than #4. If you get to a point where you have to end some sentence fragments with full stops, better to go all in. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:52, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Firefangledfeathers: can comments be saved, without necessarily having to take a screenshot? What you wrote is very, very useful for what I'm doing, thank you very much! JackkBrown (talk) 04:59, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I posted it at your user talk page. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 05:02, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@JackkBrown: If you're changing the caption, note MOS:CIRCA's preference for using {{circa}} rather than "ca."; {{circa|{{nowrap|330 BC}}}} will provide the full formatting for your article: c.330 BC Bazza (talk) 09:48, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to Edit the Article?[edit]

My article is keep on Reverting despite providing valuable information and source of the content. Aryan2866 (talk) 04:50, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your additions to articles keep on being reverted, Aryan2866, because they refer the reader to a website with the domain name statsfact.com. A glance at the website suggests that its content is money, gossip, and tits. Adding references to it doesn't obviously benefit the readers of Wikipedia; there's a suspicion that you're adding them in order to benefit statsfact.com. You're welcome to go to WP:RSN and argue for the reliability of statsfact.com; but I suspect that this would be an uphill struggle. -- Hoary (talk) 05:42, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

newspapers.com reference url and wikipedia library url[edit]

Greetings from Sunny Melbourne Australia,

I am working outside and enjoying the autumn sunshine 23 degrees. :-). Yes I am skiting but not for long as the brisk Melbourne"winter is coming"

So, Is there a way around having to maually change a wikipedia reference url from (say) https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/399777850/ to a wikipedeia library url https://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/image/399777850/. Apologies if this should me raised on meta or phab, but I couldn't work out the correct place! Thanks. Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 05:32, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Wakelamp. This may not answer your question, but FYI, neither of those links are ideal in a Wikipedia article. Per Wikipedia:Newspapers.com, we prefer to clip the articles and link the clip url. Assuming you want the Transformers review, you could use this link, which allows everyone to see a lower quality clipping of the piece. I did have to clip it manually, and I don't think there's any other way. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 05:54, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Whatever you do, do not use the https://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/... url in wikipedia articles. Those urls do not lead readers (who won't have access to the wikipedia library) to the source.

Penal Code (Turkey)[edit]

This paragraph needs to be completely fixed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_nationalism#/editor/9; I would do it myself, quietly, but the texts of the articles of the Penal Code of the States are not sure if they should be put in italics. JackkBrown (talk) 06:42, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Which paragraph? Ruslik_Zero 07:02, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ruslik0: ==The "Insulting Turkishness" laws==. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_nationalism. JackkBrown (talk) 12:07, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mobile section edit links like ...#/editor/9 only work for users of the mobile version. Most editors use the desktop version and are taken to the top of the page with no indication of the section unless they guess it from the number in the url. It's much better to click the section in the table of contents and post the resulting url, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_nationalism#The_%22Insulting_Turkishness%22_laws. The best is a wikilink like Turkish nationalism#The "Insulting Turkishness" laws but it requires a little more work. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:10, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Expanding articles on Cameras[edit]

Hi everyone! I was thinking about how I might continue to contribute to Wikipedia, and I found that there are a lot of articles on cameras that seem quite lackluster. Consider for example Sony α7R V, Canon EOS R6, or the lack of an article on the Canon EOS R6M2. To be clear, I do not have a conflict of interest in expanding these articles, it's just a personal interest of mine that I'd like to put to use here.

However, I'm a little worried about notability and undue weight. It's quite a specific field, and there are a LOT of different camera models, so I want to avoid e.g. giving undue weight to a certain model by editing its article when all the articles on camera models are extremely brief.

Let me know your thoughts, please :)) Actualcpscm (talk) 10:37, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Actualcpscm The nature of this volunteer project is that people work on what they want, when they want, when they have time to do it. Due to this, articles are quite often not similar in structure and size, even within the same field of topics. Undue weight only applies to information within an article, not to one article having more coverage than another because someone chose to write about one topic and not another. 331dot (talk) 10:43, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll add, if you want to contribute about cameras, you aren't expected to make every article on every model of camera roughly the same size. We appreciate everything and anything that you do, even if it's just one article at a time or one article period. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Actualcpscm: See also WP:NPRODUCT. GoingBatty (talk) 13:22, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Actualcpscm: Sometimes you can find other editors to collaborate with, often by finding an appropriate Wikiproject. Cameras are not in my area, but you might start by asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Visual arts to see if that is the right place, or if someone there can point you to the right place, or if you want to start a separate sub-project. You and others can then discuss what an ideal camera article would look like, and decide on how to identify and evolve the camera articles to this standard. If you prefer to simply work alone with no project structure, that's fine too. There is no deadline and any improvement you make will be appreciated. -Arch dude (talk) 14:55, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Overlap between articles[edit]

Two closely-linked articles describing current events in Israel are being developed in parallel. The main article is 2023 Israeli judicial reform and a closely-related article is 2023 Israeli anti-judicial reform protests. Hitherto, the latter has been used to describe street protests only, while all other kinds of protests have been described in the main article, in section 2023 Israeli judicial reform § Reactions opposing the changes. Recently, two items were added to the "protests" article, describing military service refusals. These and other military service refusals are already covered in the main article. I have removed them from the "protests" article, explaining to the two editors where to find (and edit) that kind of content. In the subsequent discussion at Talk:2023 Israeli anti-judicial reform protests, a disagreement has arisen as to whether it is useful to describe the same events in two articles. Are there Wikipedia guidelines covering this kind of thing? Thanks Misha Wolf (talk) 18:42, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Company split and page needs updating[edit]

Hi - How do I make edits to a company's page? The company recently went through a split and the company description on the wikipedia page is not correct now. Every time I try to make a change on the page, the page is reverted back by another user. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Atalmadge (talk) 19:28, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Collabera: What company? And how do you know it has split? Bazza (talk) 19:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Atalmadge We prefer the term "article" as opposed to the broader "page". I'm wondering if you are associated with this company- if so, please read about conflict of interest and paid editing(which includes employment) for information on required formal disclosures.
What is it exactly that you want to do on the article? 331dot (talk) 19:41, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is about Collabera.   Atalmadge, your first edit removed well-referenced content, your second added unreferenced promotional twaddle. Neither had an edit summary. You should expect such edits to be reverted. If you want to remove content, give your reasons, in an edit summary, on the article's talk page, or both. If you want to add content, write it in neutral language and cite a source, Maproom (talk) 19:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am an employee of the company and we announced the split of Collabera Inc. into Ascendion and Collabera, LLC. (see ignitingourevolution.com/). How do we reflect changes to our information so that it is accurate if employees of the company cannot make edits? Atalmadge (talk) 20:06, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Atalmadge First, please make the required paid editing disclosure on your user page(User:Atalmadge). This is a Terms of Use requirement.
You are permitted to make a formal edit request(click for instructions) on the article talk page, Talk:Collabera, detailing changes you feel are needed. 331dot (talk) 20:08, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to create a template with a dropdown selection for a param.[edit]

See: cite web; where in Visual Editor the parameter "url-status" has a menu with a few selectable options, not a text field. I want to do this to combine the functionality of a few templates (UR Libraries, MIT Libraries, Vanderbilt Libraries, etc.) into one template where there will be a dropdown field for which institution's library you would like to access from. First, I ned to know how to have a field with only a few selectable options.

Pat Boone's page has incorrect information[edit]

The article says his name at birth was Patrick Charles Eugene Boone. (It used to say "Charles Eugene Patrick Boone.) Pat's real name on his birth certificate is Charles Eugene Boone. I read this years ago but had the opportunity to verify this fact with Pat face to face in November 2022 on a TCM cruise. I told him both Wikipedia and IMDB had it wrong. On page 11 of "Pat Boone's America -- 50 years" Pat tells how his mother expected to have a daughter. When she had a son, she named him after family members but ALWAYS called him "Pat" -- and so did everyone else. BigBooneFan (talk) 05:54, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

In edit source mode, the text does not scroll.[edit]

I rewrote the entire text of the wiki article Ban Pa, Phitsanulok in my sandbox.
Replacing the original article text requires me to copy the new text from the sandbox.
Normally in edit source mode I highlight from the top left corner of the text and downwards.
Dragging the mouse to the end of the whole text.
But in the new wiki environment, the highlighted text doesn't scroll, but stops at the bottom of the monitor window.
What is the solution for this?
